Tzedakah--the Hebrew term for “charity”—is derived from the Hebrew Tzadeh-Dalet Qof, meaning justice or fairness. Giving to the poor is considered not an act of generosity as much as it is an act of justice, and a duty. Tzedakah Charity Boxes are used for collecting coins for the poor, an act that is both a symbolic and a real gesture of giving. The perfect bar/bat mitvah gift and a reminder of what is sometimes considered the most important commandment: tzedakah.
