Pets of all descriptions - animal, vegetable, and even mineral -have served to enliven the lives of lonely people since time began. Animals, especially cats and dogs, offer something the lonely person won't find in the classifieds: unconditional love. But giving someone a pet means giving them a responsibility, so be sure that that's a responsibility they'd be willing to take on.
