Horseracing and cinema have been bound together from the very beginning, when 19th century photographer Eadweard Muybridge built a special camera to show how all four of a running horse’s hooves are momentarily off the ground. Ever since then filmmakers have found inspiration in the spectacle of a galloping horse, especially when money and occasionally love hang in the balance. Horseplayers of all stripes will be drawn to these sometimes beautiful, sometimes bleak movies about their sport.
