What it is:
A cookbook produced by the Hostess company, of every Twinkie recipe you could imagine, and plenty you couldn't.
Why we love it:
Ok, let's answer the obvious question first. It's a cookbook of recipes you can make from Twinkies, not a recipe book of how to make Twinkies. Then there comes the next obvious question, and the answer is, actually quite a few recipes. Next question, and the answer is, because Hostess had their 75th anniversary and asked the whole country to send in their Twinkie recipes so they could package them up together. And finally, for your last question, we don't know because we didn't try to make the recipes but some of them sound tastier than others. Now that we've covered the basic questions, I suppose there's the question of why to give this as a gift. Well, kitsch value is certainly a lot of it, and it might serve as an amusing little reminder for anyone trying to lose weight. We like it because for better or for worse, it's an absolutely American exploration of an absolutely American food and 50 years we'll probably hearken back to the good old days when we ate such terrible food.
