What it is:
A pocket watch that's a miniature replica of Stonehenge.
Why we love it:
There's something about timepieces that makes us desire innovation and antiquity in the same breath. Perhaps because they're so representational of the past and the future, it makes sense to combine the modern and the ancient. There are lots of great options for modern, but you'd be hard pressed to get more ancient than this pocket watch, which contains a tiny scale replica of Stonehenge, the ancient Celtic monument which was, among other things, a very big clock. If you use the included compass, and learn how to read ancient pagan timepieces, the Stonehenge clock will tell you the apparent time, along with the exact moment of the equinoxes. This may seem a little bit challenging, but fortunately there's an ordinary analog watch on the back side until you learn to read the Stonehenge side. Even if they never manage it, it's sure to be a conversation piece, and being able to tell the moment of the equinox will let them know when they can try and stand an egg on its end.
