Rocklopedia Fakebandica
What it is: A (more or less) complete history of fictional bands and musicians from pop-culture, with a humorous tone.
Why we love it: We all love to imagine that Rock N Roll lifestyle, even when that lifestyle is, well imaginary. Throughout books, movies, television, we've created a vast wealth of bands and rock stars that are completely fake. Sometimes they're central to the story, like Spinal Tap, or Josie and the Pussycats, and sometimes they're Johnny Zhivago (the singer featured on the top 10 board in A Clockwork Orange). From the famous to the hopelessly obscure, fake bands have become a part, in some strange way, of music history. Most of us don't give these pseudo-bands a second thought, but for the hardcore music geek or the pop culture obsessed, they're absolutely fascinating. The Rocklopedia Fakebandica is great fun for those devoted few, but is also relentlessly amusing enough to capture the imagination of even the most casual fake band fan. A nearly exhaustive listing of fake bands from A-to-Z, the Rocklopedia is a tour through pop culture history and a treasure trove of bizarre trivia. For anyone who has a burning need to know how many fake rock musicians Elvis played, this is the perfect book.
Who we'd give it to: Musicians, rock fans, pop culture hounds, The Archies
Where to get it: From Amazon.com for a fictional $5.98
