What it is:
A portable, playable, plastic ice cream maker that works by being rolled, tossed, shaken or bounced about, no batteries required.
Why we love it:
We have to guess that something like 70% of all American kitchens, contain one of those hand-cranked ice cream makers. It's probably buried in the back of some cabinet, where it's been sitting since about 2 weeks after it was purchased, shortly after the first time it was used and the owners discovered that it was actually a magic device that turned delicious, creamy ice cream into an onerous chore. Sitting and cranking an ice cream maker for what feels like eternity just loses its appeal when you know you can pop down to the supermarket and pick up a pint of whatever suits your mood. Still, there is something so theoretically appealing about home made ice cream, so we were thrilled to discover the Play and Freeze Ice Cream maker, which turns an onerous chore into fun and fun into ice cream. It's utterly simple, just pour ice and rock salt into one side and ice cream mix into the other and shake, roll, or play with your ice cream maker however you want to and in no time you'll have rich and delicious ice cream. You could go lawn bowling, or play hot potato, or anything else you please, no matter what, the results will be tasty. It's small, convenient and easy to clean, making it the perfect thing for family camping trips, picnics, or other activities. Finally, an ice cream maker that will actually spend some time outside the kitchen cabinet.
Who we'd give it to:
Campers, hikers, picnickers, families with small children, ice cream fanatics and anyone who needs a reason to shake their groove thang.
