Old Lady Who Swallowed A...
What it is: A doll and book set of the old lady who swallowed a fly. We don't know why.
Why we love it: Ah, the great mysteries of childhood. Why is the sky blue? What are dogs thinking? Why did that old lady swallow the fly, and did she know that perhaps she might die? It's one of the more enduring, and more perplexing children's rhymes. One wonders how that little old lady could have possibly swallowed the fly, spider, bird, cat, dog, goat, and cow while remaining in perfect health, yet was finally done in by the horse. It seems improbable, and one assumes that pigmy cows must have been involved in some way. This book and toy are particularly pleasing in that the provide an easy way to remember the rhyme, and a handy visual cue about how the process could possible be achieved (hint: very small animals). Kids will have loads of fun with this whimsical doll of the little old lady and all those poor animals, and parents will probably be grateful for an easy way to remember all the verses. Comes with a storybook that reminds one of the precise order of the animals, and all the lines of the song.
Who we'd give it to: Three and Four-Year Olds, Young Readers, Let's Pretend Kids.
Where to get it: From Uncommon Goods for a wriggling, jiggling $50.00
