Why we love it:
Well, the iPod remains the hottest mp3 player on the market, so the circus of iPod peripherals seems unlikely to stop anytime soon. We did like
giving our iPod legs and
dressing it up for Halloween, and we loved
making it dance, though we admit those
iPod jeans look a little weird. The trouble with most of these peripherals is that though, yes, they are
fun, they don't seem to serve any purpose beyond a sort of nebulous "funness" that's hard to place a value on. What
is valuable is this latest (admitedly odd) but clever co-branding from Nike and Apple for the new Nano sport kit. A pair of special shoes have a slot for a sensor which transmits a host of information about speed, distance, etc. of your workout directly to your Nano. The iPod displays all manner of information to the runner, and stores it to upload to your iTunes and the Nike site, so that performance data can easily be tracked. Hey, we love all the iPod gadgets that are around these days, but it's nice to see one that's a little bit more on the useful side of things.
