What it is:
An oil lamp with a etched steel shade that creates a beautiful shadow.
Why we love it:
It's a given that we have to light the spaces we occupy. Try as we might, we cannot see in the dark like our cats, and sonar does not appear to be on the evolutionary horizon for us any time soon. Luckily, being tool using creatures, we can bring artificial light to our lives. It's important to remember though, that just because the light is artificial that doesn't mean it has to feel artificial. The Lumen is an excellent compromise between the need for artificial light and the desire for beautiful, natural lighting; it's a simple oil lamp which uses an acid-etched stainless steel figure of a tree to cast a striking, beautiful shadow on the walls. The effect is quite stunning, and relieves any lingering dislike you may have for the idea of artificial lighting. Take advantage of the creations of your clever, tool-using fellow man, and cure the darkness of your space with some truly beautiful lighting.
