King Cake
What it is: Mardi Gras pastry delivered fresh to your door.
Why we love it: In New Orleans, King Cake is synonymous with having a party. A tiny plastic doll is hidden in the cake and whoever gets the piece containing the doll is named "King" for a day and bound by custom to host the next party and provide the King Cake. This keeps the tradition going and assures that there will always be another party. As the locals say, "Let the good times roll"! Manny Randazzo is famous for his homemade King Cakes and makes this delicious cross between a coffee cake and French pastry from a recipe handed down from his father. The cakes are delivered overnight and purchase includes a unique Randazzo's Mardi Gras theme bag, stuffed with beads, doubloons, the history of Mardi Gras and the kingcake, a commemorative 11x 16 color poster, a beautiful feather mask, and a kings crown.
Who we'd give it to: King Cakes make great gifts for party hosts and are a special sweet treat for birthdays.
Where to get it: From Kingcakes.com starting at a delectable $36.95.
