Jishaku Game
What it is: A portable strategy game that uses magnetic hematite stones as playing pieces.
Why we love it: At first glance, Jishaku seems like a simple strategy game like checkers. But the twist comes from the magnetic hematite stone pieces. Depending on how you place your stone, the magnetic attraction to nearby stones can lead to your playing piece suddenly jumping out of position. The unpredictability of the game results in surprise and laughter and turns any get-together into a party. Skilled players learn to use magnetic force in their favor, repelling the magnetic stones closest to them without forcing them into other stone pieces. The game includes 18 magnetic stones in a storage bag and a force field game base with special foam inset.
Who we'd give it to: Jishaku would make a great travel game for families with children 8 years old and up.
Where to get it: From Amazon.com for a magnetic $17.71.
