Inkless Metal Pen
What it is: A stainless steel pen that writes on most paper by using the metal "nib" on the tip instead of ink.
Why we love it: It’s a modern interpretation of one of the first writing instruments. In the Medieval period, artists and scribes often used a metal stylus (known as Metalpoint or Silverpoint) in order to draw on a specially prepared paper surface. It was particularly favored during the Renaissance period by artists such as Leonardo da Vinci. This modern version of the stylus can be used on ordinary copy paper and will not smudge or erase. It works by leaving bits of metal alloy on the paper. Since there is no ink, there is nothing to dry out, so the pen will work just as well in 25 years as it does today. And, of course, it never needs sharpening!
Who we'd give it to: This one-of-a-kind pen would make a great Graduation gift. Everyone from an artist to a science buff to a business associate would marvel at the Inkless Pen.
Where to get it: From Grand Illusions for a unique 14.99GBP (Approx. $29.53).
