Cool Gift of the Day

What it is:
Space, the final frontier... Sadly technology has not yet advanced far enough for us to be able to buy our space-obsessed friends and loved ones a trip on the next shuttle to the moon, and they'll probably never be able to jaunt from galaxy to galaxy with their trusty Vulcan friend. Since we can't send our spaceniks to the stars, the next best thing is to bring the stars to them. Planetariums provide a beautiful view of the night sky for any date and time in a cheap and easily portable package. For a birthday gift, set it up to display the stars on the day they were born, or show them the sky on their anniversary. Kids especially will enjoy the guided audio tour and the interactive meteor maker, but you're never too old to stare up at the sky in wonder.
Why we love it:
It's nice to make grandiose promises about giving someone the sun, moon and stars and then be able to deliver on them.
Who we'd give it to:
Spaceniks, hobbyist scientists, dreamers, visitors from Ork or Melmac.
