Flamingo Invasion
What it is: A dead of night delivery of a front yard full of Pink Flamingos, to celebrate a special event in pink, plastic style.
Why we love it: There are occasions for which a bouquet of flowers simply will not do, and a box of chocolates seems woefully inadequate. Some things cannot be expressed with a card, no matter how pithy, some things require a 6 foot long banner of celebration. A banner, and a yard full of flamingos. Which is, fortunately, what the Eastern Onion can delivery, under cover of night, to the front yard of whoever needs celebrating. They'll sneak in, fill their yard with pink flamingos and a banner with the sentiment of your choice, and then return later to take them away again, no muss, no fuss. Sometimes it's nice to make a really big fuss over an event in a person's life, or just over a person, and we can't think of a bigger (or admittedly, stranger) fuss than a yard full of bright, cheery flamingos to greet someone in the morning. Eastern Onion is primarily run out of San Francisco, but does provide this service in some other metropolitan areas. If you're not in range, well, pink flamingos are pretty cheap, and you can always paint your own banner.
Who we'd give it to: Recent graduates, people who just got a new job, retirees, birthday boys and girls, John Waters fans.
Where to get it: From Eastern Onion for a variable fee.
