What it is:
An LED device which attaches to your faucet and makes the water glow bright blue.
Why we love it:
Some gadgets solve the problems that everyone has, like "how do I get this can open?" or "I have too many darn remote controls." Some gadgets, on the other hand, solve problems that no one has, like "I sure wish my tap water was glowing with an eerie blue light." Ostensibly, you could say this served the purpose of a night light, though one that only worked when the faucet was on, but that's a pretty flimsy definition of usefulness. Ultimately, the LED Faucet Light is not about usefulness so much as it's about a certain fascination with things that glow with a spooky light. Which, if the popularity of the X-Files is any indication, is a fairly widespread fascination. This is not a gift that does something, or fills a need, this is a gift that makes people say, "Oooooo, shiny." Which, if you're shopping for a teenager, is usually all you need.
