The Ecological Calendar 2008
What it is: A unique calendar designed to help put us back in touch with the cycles of nature and our surroundings, rather than something with which to track time as we typically view it.
Why we love it: This certainly isn't your mother's appointment calendar! While there are plenty of wonderful versions of those to go around, there is only one Ecological Calendar as far as we know. Using four colorful 3-foot-long panels to depict each of Earth's four seasons - from solstice to equinox to solstice to equinox, it is light years away from the typical grid-format calendar based on the Gregorian calendar that measures out time in 7-day increments. Each panel encompasses the spatial relationships between Earth, sea, and sky while emphasizing the procession of life from season to season. This is, in a way, a coffee table book in calendar form. Packed with information about the year and its seasons, it walks with us through time and puts the focus on nature and its phenomena. Don't throw away your day-planner, because this certainly doesn't take its place.
Who we'd give it to: A thoughtful and spiritual gift for nature lovers and environmentalists.
Where to get it: From Isabella Catalog for an informative $14.99.
