Brontosaurus Marionette
What it is: A charming wooden marionette of a Brontosaurus dinosaur.
Why we love it: Hold on, we know what you nitpickers in the audience are saying, "Brontosaurus! Pshaw, don't they know that the Brontosaurus wasn't even a real dinosaur? Yes, yes, okay, we know that, which is more than we can say for the US Postal Service (who published a Brontosaurus stamp long after they were officially recognized as, well, non-existent). While we acknowledge the Brontosaurus' fictional status, they do still hold a certain place in our heart, and there's something very... dinosaurish about them. So, we hope you'll forgive this charming toy for being slightly less scientifically legitimate than would be ideal, and simply enjoy its charm. The marionette is carefully strung to be tangle-free and create realistic movement (well, fictionally realistic), and comes with a handy display stand for when the faked-up lizard is not out roaming the prehistoric wilds. It may not be realistic, but then, neither are most puppets, and it is undeniably charming.
Who we'd give it to: Kids, kids and more kids, Science Geeks, and whoever designs the stamps for the postal service.
Where to get it: From Mahar Drygoods for a not entirely accurate $38.00
