What it is:
A new take on those classic motivational posters, with a bitingly funny twist.
Why we love it:
There's nothing better than feeling motivated and excited about what you're doing, especially at work, and there's nothing less likely to motivate you than a poster with a nature scene and an aphorism. If motivation and inspiration were that easy to get, motivational speakers and self-help authors would be out of a job (and sadly that's not likely to happen any time soon). There is some tiny percentage of the population that bounds out of bed, recites their affirmations and goes about their day wrapped in the warm glow of self-satisfaction, but we don't know any of those people and frankly we're pretty sure we wouldn't want to. For those of us that live on planet earth, Despair Inc. has produced a series of posters that speak to the reality of the workplace and beyond. Beautiful photographs are paired with phrases like, "Get To Work: You aren't being paid to believe in the power of your dreams", and "Meetings: None of us is as dumb as all of us." For those who need inspiration outside of the workplace, Despair Inc has posters suitable for many different environments, including, "Dreams are like rainbows, only idiots chase them" and "Dysfunction: The only consistent feature of your dissatisfying relationships is you." With honesty like that, it's hard not to feel at least a little inspired, if not to work harder, then at least to laugh more. The Demotivator posters remind us not to take our goals, or our setbacks too seriously, and that really is good advice.
Who we'd give it to:
Office drones, bosses with a good sense of humor, the stressed out and overworked, disaffected college students.
