Cube World Digital People
What it is: Tiny digital people, to sit on your desk and keep you company.
Why we love it: We always thought the digital pet craze fell just a little bit short of the mark. Oh sure, they were cute, and they would, um, beep, but it kind of lost its shine after a few days. Ultimately, a little "fluffy" pet on a keychain just didn't quite do it for us. We wanted something with a little more personality. Enter the Cube World Digital Stick People, independently-acting, socially-interacting, playful stick people with individual personalities. Each one "lives" in their own little box, playing and amusing themselves, but the fun really starts when you put two together. The cubes have magnetic contacts on the sides, and when you connect them up they'll play together, interact with each other in fun and surprising ways, even steal each other's toys. You can never know exactly what will happen, maybe they'll play a game of catch together, maybe one will lure away the other's dog (yes, the pets have pets). If you get bored with the results, simply move the cubes around and they'll start interacting in a different way. The possibilities are virtually limitless.
Who we'd give it to: Bored office workers, people who have no room for pets, stick figures.
Where to get it: From Think Geek for a pixelated $29.99 for a pair.
