What it is:
A pair of skates that slip over your shoes to let you slide around on carpet as if it were hardwood.
Why we love it:
Anyone who grew up in a house with hardwood floors (or sufficiently slippery linoleum) knows the joy of carefully selecting your very slidiest socks, getting a running start and seeing how far you could slide. It's one of the great joys of childhood (and let's be honest, it's not bad as a grown up either), and everyone should be able to enjoy it. Until recently, this particular brand of fun was lost to those who suffered tragically with wall-to-wall carpeting. Sliding on carpet tends to be very anti-climactic, and often ends in rug burn and tears. Carpet sliders finally give carpet owners a level playing field in the slide Olympics. The friction-free plastic bottoms allow you to get up a good head of steam even on a carpeted floor, so that sliding is a breeze. Mom may not be thrilled with the impromptu indoor hockey games, but at least it's better than trying to pull up the carpeting.
